radon gas

Radon is a radioactive gas that occurs naturally when the uranium in soil and rock breaks down. It is invisible, odorless and tasteless. When radon is released from the ground into the outdoor air, it is diluted and is not a concern. However, in enclosed spaces like homes, it can accumulate to high levels. High radon levels can be a risk to the health of you and your family.

How radon gas enter the house?

  • Cracks in concrete slabs
  • Spaces behind brick veneer walls that rest on the uncapped hollow-brick foundation
  • Pores and cracks in concrete blocks
  • Floor-wall joints
  • Exposed soil, as in a sump
  • Weeping (drain) tile, if drained to open sump
  • Mortar joints
  • Loose-fitting pipe penetrations
  • Open tops of block walls
  • Building materials such as some rocks
  • Water (from some wells)
